Project Description

This was my final project for my animation class. This is where I combined everything I learned throughout the semester in one short movie.
Making this took a lot of time, especially the background (which I am very proud of). This animation helped solidify the techniques I learned in class.
With this knowledge I am better equipped to make more animations for myself! I already have so many ideas…!

Process

When I heard about the final project for this class I immediately wanted to do an animation to music. I really like the animator Sir Fluff (find them on youtube!) and their animations are often made to the beat of a song. I chose Bulletproof Heart by My Chemical Romance.

I started out by designing my characters. I had already used my lizard character in a previous project but I wanted to give him a friend. Of course, cats being my favourite animal, I made him a little cat buddy.
I chose a limited color palette because it would be simpler for me to keep consistent.

Then, I made a rough storyboard, depicting each scene I wanted to animate.

Next step was designing the background. I made a huge stretch of the city they’re in. I used it to reference when I made different angles and looped it in the last sequence on the motorcycle.

For most scenes I would draw the character in Illustrator, import them to Animate and then animate them there but for the full body running sequences, I drew each frame in Illustrator as they look a little stiff using the Animate tween method.
Finally, everything was assembled in Premiere.
